In a handful of soil, it is a marvel to consider what ancient creatures once made up the dark brown humus cradled in your palm. It can take 500 years for Mother Nature to turn the organisms that have left this world into the life-giving substance we know as topsoil. Yet in modern times we see losses of at least 36 billion tons of topsoil per year 1 - the very substrate we need not only to preserve Nature’s beauty but to feed ourselves as well. As dirt nerds, we set out to do something about this with our founding company, Earthdance Organics in 2010. Our mission at Earthdance Organics is the same as here at the farm - to restore the soil and form connections with our community. 

Five hundred years is a long time to wait, so we started looking at working with Nature’s systems to expedite the process which led us to worm castings. At Earthdance Organics we make a worm castings tea and apply it for homeowners as part of a regenerative, organic lawn and plant care program.

While sourcing worm castings, we stumbled upon the opportunity to have our very own worm farm in Yelm, Washington. As we considered the proposition and delved into the history of the land, we found the area was first known as “Shelm” by the Nisqually. The name was a nod to the shimmering heat waves that dance along the prairie during hot summer months. 

Call it whimsy but we found that our need for worm castings to support Earthdance Organics, the theme of dancing with Nature, and our desire to make our products more widely available meant there was nothing left to consider - it was time to let Dancing Spirits Farm take the stage. 

Through Dancing Spirits Farm it’s our mission to make restoring your soils, and thus having a fabulous garden, as easy as possible. We recognize that each of our landscapes, and that of our farms, are a part of an intricate ecological performance. 

By caring for our gardens with the intention of partnering with Nature, we see a radical potential for change. We aim to be the catalysts for gardeners everywhere to have a one stop shop for earth-centric products and know-how.
